Show HN: SwanLove – The Dating Website Based on LinkedIn and Movies Preferences
I just launched a dating website, SwanLove (https://swan.love).
There are 2 ways to search people: using Linkedin and movies preferences.
1. Using Linkedin
You register in SwanLove website. Then you submit your vanity name of your Linkedin profile. If your Linkedin profile URL is https://www.linkedin.com/in/aragorn-son-of-arathorn, your vanity name is "aragorn-son-of-arathorn". Then you must verify your Linkedin profile by creating a public Linkedin post containing a random string generated by SwanLove. Finally, you submit the URL of the public post so SwanLove can verify it.
Then you can send "likes" to someone, for example someone who has this URL of Linkedin profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/arwen-daughter-of-elrond. You just submit "arwen-daughter-of-elrond" as someone you like. Then if the owner of that Linkedin profile registers in SwanLove website, the owner can like your profile after verification. Both of you are matched!
2. Using movies preferences
You submit movies / tv series you have watched or are watching in your dating profile. Then you can browse dating profiles in the movie page (for example Queen's Gambit move page). The second way does not require Linkedin account.
In the future, you can link your Goodreads account to find people based on books preferences.
That's all. I hope it will be useful for you in your romance life!

- ghoshbishakh 6y agoWow. It will be so tough to get matches while you get some traction.
- langitbiru 6y agoYeah, I know, bootstrapping a marketplace is one of the hardest things to do in startup. So I have a plan to overcome those barriers. 1. Liking people can be done secretly (people have to like you back in order to know you like them) and publicly (people can see who like them without liking them). Liking secretly is useful for a small team (a small company or a small community). Who knows some members of that small community or company like each other but don't have a courage to express their liking. So they can use my website to do that. Of course, one of them needs to be an initiator. 2. I plan to give some benefits to premium accounts of SwanLove. So you'll get benefits even you are the only one who uses SwanLove. For example, I build PredictSalary (https://predictsalary https://predictsalary). Next year, you can predict the salary range from Linkedin profiles using PredictSalary. But only premium members of SwanLove are able to use that feature. 3. Got some funding from investors and use marketing / ads to drive people into my website. :)
- verdverm 6y agoI've heard many start by buying initial profiles. Did you know one company owns most of the dating platforms? (~80% iirc)
- langitbiru 6y agoThe match right? it owns Tinder as well.
- wingerlang 6y agoLinkedIn is probably the last thing I think of when I think dating. I see you also have predict salary in the works - why not go full stop on a “date rich people” service? The offer will be super clear.
- langitbiru 6y agoPredicting salary does not have to be interpreted in a cynic way. One can find a romantic partner based on certain level of salary with the intention to get stability in building a relationship. Other then salary, I also try to offer to people to show their intelligence (like IELTS score, foreign languages mastery), their physical fitness. So it's more holistic than "dating rich people" service.
