> With agencies like the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the FBI keeping an eye out for foreign interference — and states and counties more heavily fortified than ever — the 2020 presidential contest turned out to be the “most secure in American history,” according to federal officials.
Well, the guy who said that just got fired for saying it so... regardless how you feel about that, not sure he is the best source here.
- deanCommie 6y agoHe was fired by the person who has no interest in any reality that does not align with him winning the election. He also fired the Attorney General that would not fire the investigator that was investigating him. The newly appointed AG immediately closed the investigation. Being fired by this president arguably INCREASES one's credibility.
- Fnoord 6y agoI'm curious to see what happens to this guy's career. Huge respect for having a spine. "Ga. secretary of state says fellow Republicans are pressuring him to find ways to exclude ballots" [1] [1] https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/brad-raffensperger-georgia-vote/2020/11/16/6b6cb2f4-283e-11eb-8fa2-06e7cbb145c0_story.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/brad-raffensperger-g...
- Spivak 6y agoYeah but his boss is both the guy who lost and the one trying to claim that wasn't so let's call it a wash.
- shakna 6y ago> White House officials have asked for content to be edited or removed which pushed back against numerous false claims about the election, including that Democrats are behind a mass election fraud scheme. CISA officials have chosen not to delete accurate information. [0] He was fired not for saying it was the "most secure in American history", but for refusing to toe the party line. - yabones 6y agoThe Chairperson of CISA has decent credibility, at least to me as a Canadian. I don't care much for US politics, but the work they do is quite high quality and useful. I've been subscribed to their security newsletters/bulletins for years and I would trust them as a source of information. See also - https://www.cisa.gov/rumorcontrol https://www.cisa.gov/rumorcontrol (which includes sources for their claims) The important takeaway is, the election itself was reasonably clean. There weren't any major breaches the way we saw in 2016 where both parties had emails stolen. But, in terms of disinformation little changed, there was still massive foreign and domestic issues.
- dragonwriter 6y ago> Well, the guy who said that just got fired for saying it so... Which of these two has (1) the expertise to evaluate the facts on the issue of security of election systems, and (2) the absence of a strong motivation to misrepresent them in the direction of their public claims: (A) Chris Krebs, JD, former Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Infrastructure Protection, former Director of Cybersecurity Policy for Microsoft, former Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Infrastructure Protection, and most recently Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, or (B) Donald J. Trump, BS (Econ), former brand marketing kingpin, former reality television star, and, unless he succeeds somehow in discrediting the results of the recent public voting, imminently-outgoing President of the United States. Also, if you are still undecided, recall that Chris Krebs didn't just say it on his own, he was relaying the conclusion reported in the joint declaration [0] of the two coordinating councils working on election security for the CISA, which included both industry representatives and representatives of the secretaries of state and election directors of the states, as well as experts from CISA.
