Top 200 most common passwords of 2020
- Normille 6y agoI think these lists can be a bit misleading. I'd like to believe that most people will at least make some attempt to choose an original password for important sites, such as their online banking, etc. Whether or not those passwords are original, of course, is another matter. Unless the world at large is even stupider than I imagine [and I've set the bar pretty low], I'd reckon a lot of those '123456' type passwords are used by people on the increasingly large number of unimportant / trivial sites which require you to create an account in order to interact with the site [eg. leaving comments, reading articles, etc]. Sites which you don't really care about beyond that simple interaction. Before I started using a password manager, I used to use the same password [a bit more original than 123456] on any unimportant site where I was required to create an account in order to 'play'. Now I do use a password manager, I could go through all those sites changing the logins to use a randomly generated password. But what's the point? I rarely if ever visit the sites and the only info they have on me is a made up username and disposable email address. So, good luck to any hackers who can wreak havoc with those.
