The Mac Is Losing Me
- pjmlp 6y agoInteresting, all this "is loosing me" posts are from people that apparently never used Apple platforms before Mac OS X came into the picture. "The Cult of Mac" is a good reading for those that weren't there and still miss what it means to target Apple devices, instead of pretty UNIX boxes.
- marssaxman 6y agoI was an avid Apple user from the days of the 512k Macintosh and the Apple IIe, but Apple lost me a few years back. I still use a company-issued Mac laptop at work, because it came with the job, but it's been over five years since I've bought any Apple hardware for personal use, and I see no reason to expect that will change. This article's closing remark is apt: "When someone says 'we’ll give you the full experience', settling into that requires trust. And my trust that Apple and me are in alignment keeps fading." I do not trust Apple enough to submerge myself in their world of proprietary lock-in technology; I can't imagine trusting any corporation that much.
- city41 6y agoMy Mac experience started with System 7 and ended with Sierra. I used to be a massive fan, all of my hardware was Apple for decades. I now own zero Apple hardware. Apple hardware and software was better when it was uniquely Apple. MacOS 8 will always be fondly remembered. Sure it was primitives as can be (cooperative multitasking? Ugh) but the overall experience was unlike computers today.
