Dude, it was 9 years and two console generations ago.
They had a serious security breach and it was pretty bad, for sure, and the service stayed down for a while. But Sony is not the first company to have a security breach. And under the circumstances, they did the right thing: shutting the service down entirely until it could be fixed was clearly the right call, but it was also clearly a very difficult call to make. This is what we want companies to do when things like this happen.
After the incident, they gave every user two AAA games (very good ones too! InFamous and LittleBigPlanet!), and compensation for the downtime (as well as 30 days of PSN free for non-members, even though they weren't really affected), which was pretty darn generous. And there has been no verified reports of fraud resulting from the breach.
I was also annoyed I couldn't play Call of Duty for 3 weeks, but I got over it.
- mulmen 6y agoAnd for the last 9 years I didn't buy any Sony anythings and I didn't get screwed by anything. Including this, because I already wrote them off a decade ago. Fool me once, etc. There's no coming back from a 23 day outage. Your comment is especially ironic considering the games you mention are among those that are no longer listed.
- OskarS 6y agoI've spent the last 9 years buying TONS of Sony games and products, and I also have not been screwed by anything! In addition, I've gotten to play an absolutely incredible array of games, including some of the greatest games of all time. You should let go of this grudge.
- mensetmanusman 6y agoI was unaware this happened (last console was SNES). Did they offer users gift cards or anything?
