What's the worst that could happen? You can get a gruff rejection by a (clearly) skilled developer, which unless you have a big ego acting as buffer, will make you doubt whether you are cut out for programming at all. This again will hurt your enthusiasm and make you stop working on hobby projects (what's the point?) for weeks, or even months if you are already insecure or slightly depressed.
