I am sympathetic to your message, but words develop a life of their own. As a conservative Evangelical Christian my beliefs are distinct from but similar to those of fundamentalist Christians -- as I define Christian fundamentalism. But just try telling someone that a Fundamentalist Christian is not some sort of Christian terrorist! There has been a pervasive back-formation from Islamic fundamentalism that totally obscures what fundamentalist Christian means. In my view, the battle to rescue the terminology has been lost. But kudos for the Princess Bride reference!
