Ask HN: How do you get a job?
How do you get a job? It has been 11 years since I left college and I still haven't been able to get a job. I have seen skilless people given countless opportunities to grow with a company. I have never been given the same opportunities as my peers and what was supposed to be my savior became 90k in debt and indentured servitude to the banks.
I don't have money for December rent. I've been homeless once before so I will probably kill myself in 13 days if I don't find a solution.

- throw51319 6y agoDude not paying rent is not the end of the world. Go where you can reduce your expenses to as low as possible - parents house, good friends, whatever. Get unemployment or whatever gov assistance you can get. Clearly you are doing something wrong in tech, so hedge your bet and get a simple job at Starbucks or something like that for now. Use that to save up some cash so you have some legs to stand on. Early morning and night grind on development and leetcode and get a solid entry job. Btw you should be getting student loan forgiveness by now, 11 years out of college. All of what I said above is 100% doable but you have to be stoic and "just do it"... you can't cry and make excuses and say crazy stuff. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and just give it your best shot, you're not gonna fail if you do.
- throwaway77_a 6y agoRead this OP. Taking the decision to do something and actually committing to it is the hardest part.
- lifeisgreat1 6y agoI've been doing things for 35 years straight cunt. Doing stuff gets you nowhere.

- lifeisgreat1 6y agoPlease consider trying something other than mediocrity
- sv1123 6y agoFirst off, huge hug. Second, if you've been unemployed for that many years, I suspect underlying mental health issues you may not be aware of (or haven't disclosed) is responsible for this, and not so much you doing something wrong in tech or your skills even. Please immediately get help. You can even call 911 and tell them you're in crisis; they can connect you with social workers/therapists who can connect you with crisis help. Alternatively, call https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ immediately. There is mental health help for people who are low-income/unemployed! Stay safe and hang in there.
- lifeisgreat1 6y agoI won't hang in there cunt
