First the praise: For learning technical writing where clarity is the ultimate goal this might be really useful as a first draft editor. I'm certain I would benefit from using this tool to improve my writing skills. The UI looks very nice, not just stylish but functional in a non-intrusive way and that is a great accomplishment. But my initial gut reaction after realizing what the app was doing was horror. Hemingway Editor appears to present some fairly opinionated ideas, steering a writer towards being very concise and using a simple vocabulary. But the counter point is that in a world where the written word is the primary mode of communication we desperately need to develop our own voices. Yes, even in technical writing.
