- lukeramsden 6y agoFirst generation of MacOS on Apple Silicon?
- gayprogrammer 6y agoiOS has always used the same kernel as macOS.
- AsyncAwait 6y agoAnd that helps i.e. Docker how?
- yjftsjthsd-h 6y agoSure, it's all Darwin, but userspace matters a lot - you can do lots of things on MacOS that you can't do on iOS (JIT, arbitrary web engines, assorted emulators, pop a root shell and load arbitrary kernel modules)
- heavyset_go 6y agoiOS XNU is compiled with different features than macOS XNU.
- saagarjha 6y agoThey are mostly the same.
- Brendinooo 6y agoSure, but there are concerns beyond the chip itself.
- JAlexoid 6y agoI'm absolutely not worried about the silicon. I am worried about the other hardware and MacOSX being total POS right now.
- kace91 6y agoThe issue is with macos running on apple silicon. There was a thread today somewhere with docker mentioning that they are still working on support for example.
- pwthornton 6y agoI think this is 11th generation, where the A14 and M1 are the same generation. I expect we will see a few other chips from this generation, perhaps a A14X for iPad Pros and a M1X for bigger laptops and iMacs.
