Mining Haul Trucks – The Largest SVBIEDs (2019)
- jagger27 6y agoSuicide Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device, for those wondering.
- MikeTheGreat 6y agoThis is an incredibly minor point, but that long list of words didn't make sense initially. I hit the word 'Borne', figured it had something to do with the 'The Bourne Identity' movies, and then couldn't figured if it was real or not :) For other people that haven't seen this acronym before: 1. the article is about putting explosives into giant trucks, to blow people up with 2. the list of words reads a easier with a hyphen between Vehicle and Borne. Essentially, it reads like this: (Suicide)(Vehicle-Borne)(Improvised Explosive)Device

Drones seem to get their own category.
- blunte 6y agoThe amount of human energy spent on killing each other is disappointingly impressive. If you zoom out, in space and time, it's very difficult to make a case for the value of human existence. But on a lighter note, vehicles like these are what you get when you share Mad Max VHS tapes with angry people.
- linksnapzz 6y agoI am reminded of the Euclid Megaweapon featured in “Warrior of the Lost World”; a film made famous by the drubbing it received on MST3K. Who knew the Islamic State were fans of Joel Robinson?
- blacksmith_tb 6y agoSigh, yes. Oddly they are armored against I guess small arms from directly in front only? From what we've just seen from Nagorno-Karabakh I can easily imagine someone dropping an explosive from a drone in the back (or the drone itself).
- techbio 6y agoIf zooming "out in space and time" elides human existence itself, perhaps that is the wrong technique for valuing us.
- blunte 6y agoI mean looking at human existence over a period of a few thousand years, and/or looking at a global distance rather than continental or even local.
- devteambravo 6y agoSurvived a 500lbs SVBIED blast. For reference, 500lbs fit on one of those tiny 3-wheeler mini trucks. What we have here is a bit larger. This sucks.
