My old D3100 and its kit, plastic 18-55 lens have been through hell and back. It's knocked into more things than I can count hanging over my shoulder or around my torso. I recently sold the system to a friend and had the chance to test it out, it still works great I would say Nikon lenses are pretty sturdy
