Why haven't Physical Books died yet?
- simonblack 6y agoThey don't need any other source of energy than human energy. No batteries, no internet, no electronic devices, no data protocols, no other storage apart from the paper and ink itself. Put a book down and 200 years later another human can just pick it up and use it again to impart knowledge. No other object is capable of doing that.
- onecommentman 6y agoAdd to that the simplicity, physicality and aesthetics of the physical book. No DRM, no chance of remote deletion or modification, shareable, giveable, faster skims, and it can be just as beautiful as a etching, since with certain printing technologies that’s exactly what it is. For work ephemera, PDFs are probably the way to go. For pleasure, nothing comes close to a physical book...until you run out of space. Then it provides gainful employment to the building trades.
