Are you able to boot with Shift-Option-⌘-R into Recovery Mode from an older version? https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204904 https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204904 What about Thunderbolt disk mode? (hold T at startup). Or booting from an external drive?
