Excellent take on it. This has been bothering me for a bit in the "android takes the market share" reporting. It totally misses the point that Apple makes a ton of money off it's bit of the market but the android segment is full of lots of companies making low margins and not really doing that well. Amazon is, on paper, brilliantly situated to do something really good in this space (including a fork of Android of their own perhaps - no idea if the licensing would allow that)
