It took me a while to realize what Twitter was. At first, it was described as "micro blogging" and it sorta looked like people just text messaging to the world with shades of IRC. But I eventually realized what it really is: a gossip site. With all the mean gossip anyone could ever want. I pretty much just ignore it now.
