Ask HN: Do macOS and Windows Violate GDPR?
I understand they should tell the user what data they send and why and all telemetry should be opt in?
Or is there a loophole that GDPR only applies to the web and that's why Apple and Microsoft are filling their boots with personal data?
Surely that should be illegal?
I shouldn't have to use some obscure tools and "hack" the system to disable leaking of my personal data?
- intricatedetail 6y agoHas anyone tried to send Subject Access Request to Apple or Microsoft to receive all telemetry data they collected? If you think it is not a personal data, then you know you can identify a person from their behavioural patterns.
- mytailorisrich 6y agoI expect Apple and Microsoft know what GDPR are and that telemetry data do not contain personal data.
- intricatedetail 6y agoBehavioural patterns are unique to each human also they don't tell you what exactly they send and what they do with it.
- mytailorisrich 6y agoEven if true these are not personal data and do not allow them to identify you by name.
