Morality aside, the economic argument is strong, not that we didn't think it was there but the magnitude is striking.
> Lots of presidents and lots of politicians say, “Children are our most valuable resource.” But we as a country don’t behave like that. We don’t invest in children the way we invest in adults, especially older adults. One of the statistics I like to point out is if you look at the federal budget, $7 goes to people over 65 for every dollar for people under 18.
- uberman 6y agoWhy keep people around after child birth or being charitable after their children are 18? The "economic" argument for a "Logan's Run Carousel" for those reaching 40 is even stronger.
- HarryHirsch 6y agoTime to point out that the federal budget includes Social Security. This gentleman needs to convince me that this isn't an effort to balance the Social Security budget. Also time to point out that founds for schooling come out of the state budget. Yes, a very transparent attempt to balance the Social Security budget.
