Saying .com is the king of the internet sounds like a response from marketing/management. I suspect it isn't all that important and that this will probably be dropped in favor of a practical solution in the future.
- vaksel 18y ago# of .com websites making at least $1mm/yr? 9999999999999999 # of .us/.info/.me/.biz sites making at least $1mm/yr? 8 Yes its marketing, but that's because consumers pretty much got taught that one of the major ways to see if a business is legitimate is to see if it has the .com extension. Blame all the affiliate spammers who put up the crappy sites on the .info etc domain names to try to make a few bucks by using the bulk method
- ra 18y agoput simply, .com is a brand
- dcurtis 18y agoNo, the thing you put before .com is part of the brand. The .com just adds legitimacy.
- pchristensen 18y agoThat's part of the value of a brand. If I see anything that's .biz or .info, it might as well be .ru for how much I distrust it.
- abossy 18y agocraigslist.org, anybody?
- theoutlander 18y agoYes, but guess what? Craigslist ended up buying Craigslist.com because it was a porn site and majority of the people ended up there because of habbit.
- abossy 18y agoOh, wow! That's unfortunate, yet slightly amusing.
- dcurtis 18y agoSure, in the same way that being located in San Francisco instead of Oakland is part of the value of a company.
