  Not sure 3rd would be able to take the full torque.

    What manual transmission are you thinking of that can't take a few hundred foot pounds of torque?

      You are right. They can all take the maximum torque of the ICE.

      I think EV West has a BMW M3 E36 with a Tesla motor in it, also manual I bet, but of course that would already have been a beefy manual gearbox. Expensive donor cars to find.
