Leaving aside the arguments about whether you need more than 16GB, I'd seriously think about 'buyers regret' if you buy one now and Apple releases Apple Silicon Macs with more memory next year. Also consider carefully whether the software you work on is fully compatible with Arm (e.g using x86 VMs). If you can hold on for now I would do that and make a decision when you have more information.
