I'm looking forward to seeing what the top end of this chip can do. 64 cores ought to be nice! 32 cores at least.

- grecy 6y agoAnd I think it's safe to assume that is in the works for the iMac Pro and Mac Pro, it's just a question of when it will see the light of day.
- SubjectToChange 6y agoThe Mac Pro isn't a high volume unit. So it's unlikely that Apple will spend the money developing huge, workstation class CPUs.
- threeseed 6y agoInteresting question is whether they go with 2x/4x M1 or have a specially designed M2.
- kllrnohj 6y agoIt'll definitely be a different chip either way. To have a 2x or 4x M1s would require interconnects between the CPUs for sharing RAM and general communication, which isn't there on the M1 currently. So at a minimum you're talking a rev of M1 to add such interconnects. But that all seems very unlikely. If they do go that route it'd almost certainly be something like AMD's chiplets instead of just straight "multi-socket"
- pwinnski 6y agoI think M2 would be next year, no? So maybe M1X or M1S or M1P or something like that.
