This is the first time I've seen YouTube go down like this.

Hmm, if only there wasn't a single monolithic corporation that hosted so much of the Internet's video content.

  I've been trying to drop Youtube, but I simply don't know where else to find that content that I enjoy elsewhere. It doesn't exist.

    super happy we have people jumping ship. it doesnt have to be a all-or-nothing switch. just having the option to self host all your videos in your terms is the empowering bit. they can content id you to the ground on youtube, not on your selfhosted peertube. that is nice

Don’t worry, I have everything saved via youtube-dl.

  Though youtube-dl was taken off github too, so that is down as well.

    It's still on PyPi. You can still update it via `pip3 install --user --upgrade youtube-dl`

      where do I send that line? And how do I download and operate youtube-dl from PyPi?

        You type that in the command line (your shell).

Strange there isn’t a status page or an official global Twitter.

  My thoughts exactly. I realize for most it's not a paid service (except probably advertisers) but after searching for a service status page from Google, I couldn't find one.

502 bad gateway for redirector.googlevideo.com seems to be the culprit, twenty-ish second response time
