I've found Microsoft Office to be the best deal for online storage. $70/year gets you a bunch of useful apps and 1TB of storage, or $100 year provides 1TB for up to 6 accounts. Nothing else seems to come close.
- arkanciscan 6y agoHow do you store photos there? Do they make an Android client that syncs your phone's photos to the cloud?
- liminal 6y agoYup, on Android photo upload works the same as Dropbox/Google. It doesn't have the AI smarts of Google Photos though. Just tried searching for 'cat' and the results were useless. But the storage works.
- arkitaip 6y agoThe android app exists but it's wonky as in sometimes the thumbnails of your photos simply won't load They are there, you just have to click on a blank thumbnail to watch the photo.
- pnutjam 6y agoI can get a 1TB storage server from Time4vps for about $60 (they charge in euros). That gives me the ability to store stuff with sftp, rsync, or more full featured backup solutions like borgbackup.
- shiftpgdn 6y agoHave you tried using that full 1TB? Many small time hosts oversubscribe and will look for a reason to boot you if you go beyond a reasonable usage %.
- pnutjam 6y agoYes, I have. I ran it full for a couple months, on accident. I had a symlinked directory getting backup up twice... I never heard a word from them, but I eventually noticed and fixed it. I generally run around 600GB.
- singhkays 6y agoSure but do you get to use office apps as well? I assume majority of the cost in the Office deal is the cost of the full Office suite
- anuila 6y agoSounds like a bad deal, comparatively. Microsoft skips the low-level interfaces but gives you redundancy and usable UIs and services (on top of an API)
- pnutjam 6y agoI can run other services on top of backups, for example, I run a calibre server.
