Wendy Carlos, the reclusive synth genius
- simonblack 6y agoI got horribly confused several decades ago. I was an early fan of Walter Carlos with his 'Switched on Bach' series of albums. I had about 4 or 5 of his LPs that I bought in the 1970s. But then he disappeared, so to speak. The only person I could find was Wendy Carlos. Was that his sister, or maybe his wife? Or maybe no connection? Don't forget, this was pre-Internet and pre-WWW, when information was a lot harder to find. I finally discovered the truth and was able to continue getting her music. PS. The soundtrack from 'A Clockwork Orange' is probably my favorite.
- pmdulaney 6y ago"Carlos’s work on A Clockwork Orange is particularly brilliant." Amen to that. But if you are a young person reading this who has somehow never been exposed to classical music, this is a good introduction, inasmuch as it includes not just Carlos's take on Beethoven using the synthesizer, but also some wonderful orchestral selections from Beethoven and others. My favorite soundtrack albums are probably: * A Clockwork Orange * Jurassic Park * The Natural * Godspell * Hannah and Her Sisters * Victor/Victoria * Sound of Music * Fiddler on the Roof * Camelot * Five Summer Stories
