Yeah, that's a windmill I've given up tilting at. And it has gotten better, but mostly through painful learning experiences like this one. But some days I wonder if I'd just be better off moving to OpenBSD or heck Plan 9 or Inferno.

- mrguyorama 6y agoWait, why can't OpenBSD handle Bluetooth? Is it just that the same chip is used for both wireless protocols and it doesn't support them yet?
- 35fbe7d3d5b9 6y agoNot a hardware issue, but a protocol issue. It used to be supported for limited devices (mostly HID) but the implementation was poorly designed and overly complicated. It was pulled out in 5.6 and its absence has not annoyed a developer enough to replace it.
- lmm 6y agoI switched to FreeBSD and haven't looked back - from an admin perspective it's very much like 2000s-era Linux. Less stuff works by magic, but once you configure something right it stays configured right.
- na85 6y ago>OpenBSD Don't bother. OpenBSD's performance is atrocious. I hear dragonflyBSD actually has first-class multiprocessor support, and have always wanted to try it out.
- carapace 6y agoSoftware in different security tiers shouldn't be compared on the basis of performance. I don't care if my OS is faster if it's being used to compromise my systems, eh? It's like, if you take the armor off a tank it will go faster, sure, but don't ride it into battle.
- na85 6y agoI don't think the OpenBSD security claim is as great as it sounds. Unless you are only running sshd and pf, you are beyond their "default install" and heavily into packages and ports. Is gnome 3 on OpenBSD significantly more secure than on Linux? I very much doubt it.
- carapace 6y agoI dare you to go ask that on the OpenBSD mailing list. No seriously. I don't know. I'd like to know. We don't have to speculate and bloviate. Go ask them. https://www.openbsd.org/mail.html https://www.openbsd.org/mail.html
