OK, 8 cores, but big little config, so probably 4x A53 + 4x A72. So nothing revolutionary new here IMHO. Where is the 16 core A72 SoC we all want?

- saagarjha 6y agoApple designs their own cores.
- b20000 6y agoreally, do you have a reference?
- saagarjha 6y agoUh, I guess I figured this to be fairly common knowledge so the easiest thing I can point to is Wikipedia, which names their custom cores: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_A14 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_A14. They’ve been designing these since the A6 in 2012 (“Swift”).
- b20000 6y agoread this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM_architecture#ARMv8-A https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM_architecture#ARMv8-A
- saagarjha 6y agoUh, is there something specific I should be looking for? I’m familiar with ARMv8-A already.
- the_lucifer 6y agoApple hasn’t used off the shelf arm cores since like early 2010’s. They make their own custom CPUs. Only the ISA is ARM
- b20000 6y agoso how do they differ from the A72, A53 etc?
