Every version of .NET Core has always installed side-by-side with previous versions. There's no way to avoid it.

This link has clearer instructions on what to install: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet/5.0 https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet/5.0 Just download the versions you want and install them all. Also keep in mind if you're doing actual development you need the SDK, not just the runtime.
