Any ideas how virtualization works?
Can I run Windows VM?
- miohtama 6y agoUnlikely, or very slowly, because Windows x86 would need CPU emulation.
- gruez 6y agothere's arm64 builds for windows.
- iamacyborg 6y agoMicrosoft even released a Surface device with an ARM processor.
- eznzt 6y agoPeople generally want to run Windows because of its huge software catalogue. That's thrown out of the window if you use the arm64 version of Windows. Pun intended.
- tonyedgecombe 6y agoThey aren't generally available, only to OEM's.
- pat2man 6y agoYeah, rosetta will support x86 emulation. Might be slow though.
- 0x0 6y agoBut that's for macOS binaries. Not for VMs.
- pat2man 6y ago"With the translation technology of Rosetta 2, users will be able to run existing Mac apps that have not yet been updated, including those with plug-ins. Virtualization technology allows users to run Linux" https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2020/06/apple-announces-mac-transition-to-apple-silicon/ https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2020/06/apple-announces-mac-t...
- jzymbaluk 6y agoAFAIK, virtualization will work, but dual booting will not work.
- gfiorav 6y agoI think they Apple said last time that you'd be able to run ARM Windows, not x86 as of yet.
