- beojan 6y agoHe didn't steal bitcoin, he stole giftcards (/ codes) and tried to use bitcoin to launder the proceeds. Evidently it didn't work.
- ore0s 6y agoHe was also ordered to pay back 8.3M - but when is restitution paid back? If he waits until he gets out to cash out, he could be hugely in the green 9 years later.

Say you have $10,000 and you're going to be locked up for ten years. May as well convert it to bitcoin and hope it multiplies by ten again by the time you get out.
