iSH on Twitter: Apple not removing iSH
- rvz 6y agoGood. Like the Hey app, It wouldn't be a good spectacle for Apple to ban such apps on the App Store like this given that ahead of the Apple Silicon Macs launch, they are already locked down as it is and can't run bare-metal Linux. It is wise for Apple to back down now.
- dzhiurgis 6y agoIt starts to look like Apple outsourced their review process somewhere which causing the issues we see.
- vaxman 6y agoA ton of Apple people participate here on HackerNews and errbody in the industry saw the post on here about the takedown (almost 500 comments on it so far). Apple could let someone sell a full Linux distribution to run on iphones that have “Developer Mode” enabled (which would also limit AppleCare+ liability for thermal damage/shortened battery life etc.) Such a mode might also reasonably restrict the device from accessing some cellular networks while apps that rely upon it are running, remember that is why Jobs originally asserted the crypto control over native apps —to satisfy PacBell (oh, forgive me I mean’t “AT&T”) concern about pressure on the towers in those dark iPhone 3 days before VZ and others stepped up.
- vaxman 6y agoPS: 5G UltraWideband is basically a WiFi alternative in US because of the way it is being deployed, so I don’t particularly think the “tower pressure” argument is valid anymore, just that it would be reasonable to allow the tower network operators to opt-out of full-on Linux on the iPhone/iPad.
