That's still common in North America, just not at the major chains. I often shop at Asian grocery markets, and it's hard to go wrong picking from the big bins that are spilling out onto the sidewalk. Another advantage: more different kinds of greens than I knew existed. And they're basically all delicious stir-fried with garlic & salt.
