Brave of them to do support for the vector extension, given that it hasn't been ratified / officially standardised yet[1]. It's still a work-in-progress. The final version of the vector extension may have small (or enormous!) incompatibilities, so you might be tied to one of their toolchains to use it properly, rather than something upstream.

- davidlt 6y ago06:34PM EDT - Q: plans to support RVV 1.0? A: 0.7.1 for now - when we designed, it was still at that level. We are following and working on that yes. From https://www.anandtech.com/show/15991/hot-chips-2020-live-blog-alibaba-xuantie910-riscv-cpu-300pm-pt https://www.anandtech.com/show/15991/hot-chips-2020-live-blo... 0.7.1 and 1.0 will not be compatible IIRC thus Linux distribution most likely will not support RVV on this.
- FullyFunctional 6y agoIt's not just vector, it's an incompatible version of bitmap too. I presume "brave" was used ironically. It would be very unfortunate if it fractures the ISA but I'm optimistic that it will not.
- phkahler 6y agoAs long as they use this version in their own products and update when RVV is finalized it should work out fine.
- snvzz 6y agoThey made a point to note that V extension support is hidden behind a switch. If it is a problem, it can be turned off. This is much better than not having support at all, particularly if you want to play with a recent draft, which should be what they implemented.
- kristianp 6y agoThere was another recent core on here that supported vector extensions, was it similarly outdated?
