Yahoo Mail discontinues automatic email forwarding for free users
- pcdoodle 6y agoGood, I'll get less spam now. Yahoo sold out early according to the 2013 leaks.
- lern_too_spel 6y agoThe slide you are referring to shows when the NSA started ingesting Yahoo wiretap data from the FBI. There is no selling out involved.
- kevincox 6y agoLuckily I have moved off of my Yahoo account years ago. 3 months is a somewhat reasonable amount of time for you to do an audit of what is still pointed at that address and update them. Of course you won't catch everything in 3 months, but it could be much worse.
- LinuxBender 6y agoIt is just a matter of time before all the "free" mail providers follow this pattern.
- toomuchtodo 6y agoThe solution is a combination of tech and regulation: regulation to require providers forward or provide a lookup mechanism for forwarding/aliases (similar to how you can port a phone number between providers) and an updated SMTP standard to provide for aliases/lookups (to bind email to identity instead of domains, although identity need not be tied to you personally). You shouldn't need to own a domain to not have your email held hostage.
