Something I’ve always wondered about ANC and never been able to find an answer to. I have Airpods Pro, with ANC, and since iOS 14 my phone displays a safe heating indicator with the dB hitting my ears from the pods. This level does not change when ANC is activated, but intuitively I’d assumed that it produces extra noise.
Does ANC actually cause destructive interference, meaning no noise is in fact reaching my ears?
- resoluteteeth 6y agoYes, destructive interference is the whole point of ANC.
- closeparen 6y agoANC interferes destructively with what was happening some milliseconds ago. If the noise is irregular (like speech) the ANC signal will “miss” and become net new sound.
