Yeah, you're right. It's my habit, and it's required for the zap subcommand, but it's no longer necessary for install.

  But what about software, which is both available as cask and normally, such as docker?

    That's a good question... I actually don't know what happens. I'm guessing they prefer the official binaries, but that's just a guess.
