I've been wanting to own a printer for several years, but I hold back on purchasing because I know there isn't a single consumer level printer company out there that doesn't have planned obsolescence built into their machines. I hope to see a company emerge via Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or similar which offers an open source, maintainable, moddable, built-to-last printer. Similarly to how there is now a market for privacy-focused smartphones, I'd like to think that there are enough people out there who would fund such a company.
