Are We Losing a Generation of Children to Remote Learning?
- AndrewBissell 6y agoSchool shutdowns and remote learning probably have already caused significant setbacks in the education of children who were enrolled in school at the outset of the pandemic, especially those of a younger age cohort. Whether those setbacks translate into long term permanent damage probably depends on how soon schools reopen. My fear is that the crisis will be used as an excuse to transition to remote learning in many schools permanently.
- mynameishere 6y agoAnd here come the stories in the NY Times about how we need to start ignoring Covid-19. Right on schedule.
- austincheney 6y agoPeople are assuming remote learning is somehow bad and then piling nonsense on top of that assumption. Like in the adult world success with distance learning will come down to increased self-initiative and focus. Some children excel with this and some suffer. It isn’t a lost generation. It’s a generation shedding the artificially protected child reality a bit more a bit earlier.
- dgeiser13 6y agoIt's been 7 months. How is that a generation?
- AndrewBissell 6y agoEvery kid from kindergarten age through at least grade 8 or 9 has had their educational experience significantly negatively impacted for at least a good 6 months so far. "Losing" is perhaps a strong term but a huge number of children are affected.
