Why is it that Kubernetes uses this much overhead? Surely it should be sleeping most of the time and occasionally reacting to events?
Is the open source Go runtime less efficient than Google's internal one perhaps? (https://www.theregister.com/2020/08/10/google_scheduling_code_reaches_linux/ https://www.theregister.com/2020/08/10/google_scheduling_cod...)
- neurostimulant 6y agoProbably the old atom cpu. I got ~5% or less during idle on my vps server with k3s, and that's with various stuff running (nextcloud, postgres, postgis, mysql, pgadmin, phpmyadmin, wordpress, redis, memcache, several django apps + celery broker, etc). On the other hand, running kubernetes on mac immediately hog ~20% cpu, killing any hope for normal battery life.
- m3adow 6y agoI'm using my old home PC as server an K3s barely adds CPU load. I assume it's the 7 years old Atom processor. The memory memory footprint of K3s is recognizable on my 16 Gigs of RAM though.
