No Excuses Left, Time to Leave the GitHub Monopoly
- chovyfu 6y agoI left shithub as soon as microsoft acquired them.
- kd913 6y agoI can't even access this site because Firefox is complaining about it using a self-signed cert. There are no excuses why this site should be serving an expired (10/04/2019, 18:24:11 (Greenwich Mean Time)) self-signed cert.
- LockAndLol 6y agoIt's returning 500 now. 22:15:08 GMT
- ubikkibu 6y agoI’m not convinced by this screed. It’s heavy on innuendo and light on detail. Maybe I’m just a “lost cause.”

- Proven 6y agoThis site had another shitpost recently, I forget what it was but it was strongly ideological just like this one. None of what they say in that post appeals to me. I use Github to get stuff done, mostly work-related. I don't care if some YouTube related crap can or cannot be posted there. If you do, by all means go to Gitlab or elsewhere. No one forces you to use Github. The expired self signed cert: they must be boycotting the evil LetsEncrypt for $reasons.
- PradeetPatel 6y agoI am also not convinced. It is very easy to paint Microsoft as the villain of open source movements, but action speak louder than words. With their latest commitments to Linux, Github and the NPM ecosystem, I'm willing to stick it out and embrace the new era.
- m463 6y agoblah blah. I think github has actually been a force for good. I don't see much evidence of microsoft screwing it up either. As to youtube-dl - I'm a user of it and I like it a lot. But there are some points on the RIAA complaint I think they have to deal with. I'm pretty sure there's a way to put a form of youtube-dl on the site that downloads videos as before yet skirts the RIAA complaint. But that's not something github can do for them. I think github has to follow the law and let it play out.
