War in the time of Neanderthals: how our species battled for supremacy
- disown 6y agoInteresting article though it doesn't show "how our species battled for supremacy" but that "our species ultimately gained supremacy somehow". Also, I'm still not sold that neanderthals were a different species. Why can't they be classified as a different race of humans? After all, most of us have neanderthal DNA.
- type0 6y agoDenisovan is another isolated race of our species, and probably even Homo floresiensis that were the same species.

- simonh 6y agoThe genetic differences between modern human populations are very tiny by the standards of most species, so I’d prefer a distinctive term to distinguish the pronounced differences between us and Neanderthals or Denisovans. It does seem like we could interbreed though, so related sub-species might be appropriate. Species is a fairly nebulous concept though so personally I wouldn’t nitpick its use in this case.
