I was there for the lockdown - it wasn’t that brutal. They publicly released the guidelines that police were using to deescalate and educate people on why they should go home. This is not to minimize what you are saying, as you are absolutely right that some regimes imposed some truly draconian policies. This comment definitely should not have been downvoted. I am sorry you had to go through such an ordeal, and am sure you would have found NZ far more preferable.
