As an aside, this article made me want to try out F# on Linux. I followed the steps on Microsoft website and was basically up and running a toy program in 10 minutes. Then I spent next 40 minutes trying to figure out how to configure ionide on VSCode to respect my line breaks and not make if/else statements a super-wide line. Considering both are Microsoft products, this wasn't a great developer experience. Or maybe I'm spoiled by the rich formatting customization provided by IntelliJ's formatter for Java/Scala.
- pbiggar 6y agoI had a similar experience. The syntax formatter is https://github.com/fsprojects/fantomas https://github.com/fsprojects/fantomas, and there are some controls, though not as many as I'd like.
- noisy_boy 6y agoI tried fantomas by installing it and then using the vscode plugin to use it but it kept crashing when I tried to format with it.
- nestorD 6y agoNote that Ionide, while the recommended VS Code plugin, is not a Microsoft product (it is mostly the work of Krzysztof Cieslak).
- noisy_boy 6y agoI know - however, it is mentioned in the official steps[0] for configuring F# with VS Code. [0]: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/fsharp/get-started/get-started-vscode https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/fsharp/get-started/g...
