The tragic story of Gary Kildall (2019)
- bediger4000 6y agoThis article misses saying that Q-DOS was always rumored to be a de-compilation of Z80 CP/M, slight mods made to the assembly listing to make it 8086 assembly, and then re-compiled. There's a quote from (I think) Accidental Empires, that has Gary Kildall saying that not even Bill Gates knows why DOS strings end with a '$' character, but Kildall does. I also remember that Kildall got a largish settlement from Microsoft, and was never able to talk much about the issues.
