I found out that usually happens when you have some constraints. The more constraints the more clever ways people find to achieve their goal.

- yetihehe 6y agoUp until so much constraints than even the most clever give up.
- Cthulhu_ 6y agoIt makes me think of the demoscene, that is doing things like getting 3D graphics on the Commodore or whatever it was.
- prox 6y agoFuture Crew - Second Reality
- mkl 6y agoThat was a 1993 PC demo, not C64. I had to mess with my config.sys and autoexec.bat to get it to run, but watched it repeatedly.
- jacobush 6y agoYeah but that demo was later re-created on the C64, arguably the C64 version is better. :-D
- Someone 6y agoFor those who don’t know about these demos: - http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=63 http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=63 (PC; page has link to source code) - http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=1216 http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=1216 (C64)
- nitrogen 6y agoWhen I saw that one I had never seen anything so smoothly animated before that demo in my life. I think my brief exposure to the demoscene spoiled me, because I now can't stand the slightest graphics hiccup in anything.
- onion2k 6y agoCheck out Zarch on the Acorn Archimedes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNXypBxNGMo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNXypBxNGMo It's an awesome 3D game from 1987 (with truly awful sound). That was made 6 years before Second Reality, on a RISC-based computer. It's incredible.
- prox 6y agoThats a pretty zippy frame rate there :) I did recognize the style, and then reading the comments Isaw it was indeed by David “Elite” Braben. Watch this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HbsfeubbRA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HbsfeubbRA Quite a journey from there to here
- Anarch157a 6y agoWatch the 8088MPH demo on youtube, then read how it was done [0], it's absolutelly insane what you can extract from an IBM PC 5150. [0] https://trixter.oldskool.org/2015/04/07/8088-mph-we-break-all-your-emulators/ https://trixter.oldskool.org/2015/04/07/8088-mph-we-break-al...
- grogenaut 6y agoI think that's inherent, the more constraints the more clever you have to be.
- dkonofalski 6y agoAnd the goal is always getting it to run DooM.
- backtoyoujim 6y agoand we have found the genesis of corruption.
