As others have pointed out, this is definitely not what Nate's model was doing. In fact, he did have a version of the model that did exactly this, the so called "Now-Cast" and as expected it was even more volatile than the real model:

- dragonwriter 6y agoRight, the main model intends, in fact, to be predicting the probability of various outcomes when the election is actually held, that's why there is accounting for non-poll fundamentals (economy and other things) that are observed to influence poll changes over time that phase out as time runs out for them to move the polls.
