- d33lio 6y agoNice to see Glen Greenwald has pushed the general media to finally at least mention or talk about Hunter Biden's insanely sketchy activity with the chinese. It should be more obvious than ever that china is NOT our friend.
- mandelbrotwurst 6y agoIf you're not intending to demonize a billion plus people you may want to consider differentiating between CCP, China, and chinese people.
- whatthesmack 6y agoHow did you get demonization of a billion people out of that comment? Saying "China is not our friend" is very clearly referring to the country, which is very clearly ran by the CCP, which I think is the group most people have a beef with.
- coolgod 6y agoChinese, China, CCP whats the difference right? "Hunter Biden's insanely sketchy activity with the chinese" means Chinese people. "china is NOT our friend" means that country which is made up of 1.4 Billion people is not our friend. CCP is the ruling party, akin to GOP for US, if people want to pretend to only hate the CCP please learn to use the correct terminology. If it doesn't make sense to hate on Americans because they voted in GOP, why would it make any more sense to hate on the Chinese for having a ruling party they didn't even vote in.
- dragonwriter 6y ago> If it doesn't make sense to hate on Americans because they voted in GOP Wait, why wouldn't that make sense?
- newen 6y agoThey do vote in the CCP. The Chinese elected the CCP. Beyond some rhetorical nonsense meant to soothe your feelings of guilt, shame, morality etc when urging for what will be a second Cold War, there is no practical difference between criticizing, railing against, calling for mass murder against, calling for its extinction, of the Chinese, the CCP, or China. Whatever real world practical effects that happen on the world when criticizing each of those entities will be the exact same.
- d33lio 6y agoIf you've spent any amount of time in China, you realize that the people of china are complicit but not responsible for the rise of the CCP, because china doesn't hold elections - it is not a democracy. Unfortunately, given the government mandated involvement in business and finance operations above that of a small gas station, doing business with china generally means in some way doing business with the CCP. I still have friends from china and friends here in the US who I went to college with. I fear for their ability to speak freely and have a place in our modern world without being hampered by the heinous actions of a racist and sociopathic regime.
- mandelbrotwurst 6y agoIt's not clear to me what the intent of the person I was replying to was, and I agree with you that there is a reasonable likelihood that is what they meant. At the same time, when you're having a conversation about this sort of thing, it helps to be precise so that there aren't misunderstandings, which is why I pointed this out. That the country is "very clearly ran by the CCP" may be mostly true but does not mean that there's no national identity, culture, shared history, etc. which are not fully encompassed by the party. People conflate these sorts of things with varying degrees of intention. This causes harm, even if it isn’t intended (and often, it is). When we lose nuance in our speech, our ability to understand each other diminishes.
