Recently I had to install a driver for an old HP PhotoSmart on a new pc and the amount of always-on bloatware they tried to force down my throat was staggering. It even included an old school browser toolbar.
I couldn't avoid installing the 250+mb "Solution Center", because I needed it to disable the overly enthusiastic automatic cropping that the scanner for some reason defaulted to. The option to disable that was buried deep in some obscure settings menu. Ugh.
Too bad this warning was not related to that kind of behavior.
- SOLAR_FIELDS 6y agoI had to print from an HP printer the other day. I went to go download the driver and realized the .dmg file was five hundred megabytes in size. I had no idea what I just downloaded. Either it was every single printer driver for HP in existence, something else, or a mixture of both. Assuming the best of intentions from HP in that I only got drivers, it’s terrible UX to bundle them all together like that.
