I can understand that you don’t want to do this in a dysfunctional team or in an organization that has a broken culture (not feeling save to share personal stuff for me implies a fundamental flaw). Of course if done right, nobody is forced to do this. But it is a great experience for the team to get more effective in working together and also reduce possible conflict.
