In Canada, we say "electoral reform is always popular with the opposition party/parties".
- __jem 6y agoThe GOP is the minority party in the United States. The only reason they are not in opposition is due to structural defects. This quote does not make sense when applied to the US.
- tlavoie 6y agoSure, but federal electoral reform was one of Trudeau's platform items before he got elected. Once he got in... it seems suddenly less interesting. I would dearly love to see this get done here. In BC, there was an attempt to get it in, but province-wide, the results of voting weren't there.
- Afton 6y agoTrudeau's flip flop is an example of what I'm talking about, so i don't understand your use of the word "but" in the first sentence. Once in power, a party is interested in maintaining that power. Since the current system got them into power, they are unlikely to be interested in reforming it (other than with a system that would solidify it more). I don't live in BC anymore, so hadn't realized that there had been another vote in 2018. That is disappointing.
